If you’ve ever had a piece of jewelry that leaves a greenish in color spot on your skin you’ve most likely asked yourself why it does that. Generally ~ your skin is reacting to the metal in the jewelry to everyone who wears jewelry that is cheaper.
It happens to some people more quickly than others- though, because everyone’s skin is different.
Even jewelry you pay more for can have the same effect; reason being the expensive metals aren’t completely pure<, no matter how much gold or silver is in it. Platinum is a safe choice as it almost never reacts with skin so no worries if you buy platinum jewelry.
If you have gold jewelry and want to stop it from turning your skin green make sure that you don’t have made from cheap metal and then plated – it has only a very fine coating of gold over top of a base metal that can rub off. If you have solid gold jewelry spending the extra on 18 karat gold will help keep green spots from showing up on your skin. Copper jewelry will green your skin and there isn’t a whole lot you can do about that.
Avoid wearing jewelry when you’re sweating a lot it can amplify the skin to metal reaction you might also ask your jeweler if they can add a layer of protective coating – to minimize the amount of green reaction your skin has. If you can find something to keep the reaction to a minimum you should be able to wear your jewelry quite often.
Keep in mind; your skin turning green is a harmless reaction. It’s just a skin reaction and not allergies.
Allergies will causes reddening and also will make your skin inflamed and itchy. It’s not anything like the green skin that you see from jewelry.
If you do show signs of allery stop wearing the jewelry. If all you have is green skin you are safe to keep wearing the jewelry you may just have to clean your skin more so you won’t look bad.
At the end of the day applying a coating is probably the answer.
